It has always bothered me, through First edition and into Second edition, that dodge has never quite lived up as it should as a purely defensive ability.

This was a less pronounced issue in First edition, when Flow Like Blood allowed a scenelong full dicepool dodge, which should have translated in Second Edition to a scenelong full DV.

In Second edition, Parry offers an infinitely better scenelong, which is easier to attain. This is the primary issue I wish to redress. Also factored into this altered charm tree is a high-essence Perfect-Dodge-Preparer charm.

The theory presented for Dodge here is that Dodge is a solely defensive art, and is thus far less flexible than Melee as a defensive art. It should outstrip the melee defensive tree in every regard where defence alone is concerned as compensation for this issue.

Changes to the Dodge Tree presented in the Core Book:
Shadow Over Water – No Prerequisites
Reflex Sidestep Technique – No Prerequisites
Seven Shadow Evasion – No change
Flow Like Blood – Requires Shadow Over Water and Reflex Sidestep Technique. No longer requires Excellency or Seven Shadow Evasion.

Changes to Dodge Charms presented in the Core Book:
Flow Like Blood – This charm now prevents any mundane DV penalties from affecting the character. Charm DV penalties still effect the character, as do supernatural DV penalties from other’s charms/weapons, but the character does not suffer DV penalties due to injury, poisoning, onslaught, co-ordination, her own actions or any other mundane, non-magical effect.

New Charms for Solar Dodge:
Harm-withholding PreparationRequires: Seven Shadow Evasion, Essence 5, Dodge 5.
Allows preparation of a perfect dodge through commitment of the essence cost. A number of perfect dodges may be prepared equal to the number of purchases of this charm, maximum of (Essence). This is a permenant enhancement, and perfect dodges may only be prepared on actions where Seven Shadow Evasion is the declared charm use.

On the whole I'm likely to yoink this. It's pretty much exactly what I've been thinking of doing in my own games already...at least the Harm-Withholding Preperation (though I might rename it), as it seemed wrong to me that Parry had hung parries, while dodge could not do the same.

I think you carry the concept of Dodge's specialization equating to greater efficacy a bit too far in the case of Flow Like Blood; and not far enough in the case of Harm-Withholding Preparation. I can't sufficiently quantify my feelings about FLB beyond the fact that I feel that way; and the XP sink that HWP is renders it barely useful, especially at Essence 6+, where Protection of Celestial Bliss would kick it's ass.
