Solar Melee
Cost: 3m
Mins: Melee 4, Essence 4
Type: Supplemental
Duration: Instant
Keywords: Combo-OK, Obvious
Prerequisites: Any Melee Excellency, Spirit-Cutting Attack
Follow-ups: Fleeting Essence of Life

In the war before the First Age of Man, Thrice-Radiant Misho took up his sword at the behest of the Unconquered Sun to strike down the cruel and alien primordials that tormented the inhabitants of Creation with their whims. Alas, mere mortals were indeed but toys to such beings, and they sought to still the caring Solar’s sword by turning those he cared for against him. But the Descending Sun was wise in the the ways of essence and its function in the living flesh of mortal creatures, and with the knowledge the gods had given him he turned his sword so that it passed through muscle and bone as a spirit itself, leaving only a brief and tranquil stillness.

An attack supplemented by this Charm severs the flows of essence which a creature uses to consciously direct its body. Such an attack does not deal any real damage. However, it ignores all non-magical forms of soak (The natural lethal soak of Exalted and similar beings counts as magical soak for this Charm’s purposes), and inflicts a cumulative -1 penalty on all physical actions for every health level of damage it would have inflicted. A creature which suffers a greater penalty than its (Strength + Dexterity) from this Charm is rendered immobile and cannot take any actions which require physical motion. This penalty fades by 1 every hour.

This Charm is dependent on essence flows and is ineffective against automota or other things which do not operate by such means. It is also ineffective against dematerialised spirits; if the attack was capable of striking them in the first place, it merely damages them as normal and the essence spent is wasted.

I think the description is beautifully worded, and I love the KoC tie-in.

However, for 3 motes this seems overpowered. I get that the idea is to stop a fight without inflicting damage, but you have to also consider that opportunists could use this to disable a foe and then use their more fatal Charms to perform a coup de grace on their now gimped enemy.
