When a god dies, their star falls from the sky in a blazing streak of final glory. When a new god is born, their star simply appears, shining forth in a small initial burst before fading to its normal intensity. But it is said that, at the beginning of all things, the first motion of the Loom of Fate sent out its strings across all the nascent world, lifting a portion of every spirit’s essence up into the sky in an amazing, spiraling array of lights that scattered across the sky to find their appointed place, ending with the first mighty flare of the Unconquered Sun, asserting his place above all other gods by drowning out their light with his own.
Such Rising Stars have not been seen in Creation since, but with this Charm, one of the Terrestrial Exalted can dare to emulate the gods by launching themselves upwards in a stream of blazing fire.
Expelling a huge amount of essence through their arms and legs, the Dragon-Blooded who activates this Charm ignites it into searing flame and uses the sheer force of its fury to propel themselves. This allows them to move at incredible speed and even to fly; they can move in any direction at up to five times their normal movement rate. Unlike its prerequisite Charm, Dancing Ember Stride, the Dragon-Blood does not need to remain near any surface and may hover by directing their flames directly down. They suffer no penalty for aerial actions. They pay 3m for every action that they wish the effect of the Charm to persist for, after which they may re-activate it again to keep flying (if they still have the required essence).
Unfortunately, using huge streams of flame to move is a trifle dangerous. These streams become about 1 yard wide a short distance from the Dragon-Blood’s body and extend up to 20 feet away, opposite the direction of movement, before fizzling out into smoke. Anything exposed to such flame takes damage as if from the full effect of a Fire Aspect’s anima banner. Some clever Exalted have exploited this; if so securely fastened as to not be moved by this Charm (the force is roughly equivalent to three times the Exalt’s weight), these streams of fire can be used as an effective weapon.
After seeing this Charm used, a First Age Solar created her own version, Solar Flare Through The Heavens. Its prerequisite is Eagle-Wing Style, it costs 4m per action instead of 3, allows movement at six times normal instead of five, and uses golden solar flame which causes damage only to Creatures of Darkness and similarly tainted things. Re-activating it is reflexive and does not count as a Charm use. It is otherwise identical to The Star Also Rises.
