She heard a voice, calling to her,
Channeling death essence through his hands, the martial artist strikes at the earth beneath his feet, creating a resonance that calls to all who have ever been killed there–and there is no inch of Creation were blood has not been shed in its history of violence and suffering. Incorporeal echoes of every man, woman, and child to have ever been killed there rise up from the ground, and begin to sing a dirge of horrific sorrow, a song that resonates deep in the soul of those who hear it. These echoes are not ghosts or specters, but lingering traces of memory given existence by the martial artist’s essence. They are not counted as characters, and cannot be attacked or affected.
The song drains all hope from those who hear it, preventing any character from channeling his Compassion or Temperance for the rest of the scene, as an Emotion effect. In addition, every time an enemy takes an action, 5 motes of essence–personal motes first, then peripheral motes once there are none left–are drained away, absorbed by the mournful echoes. The enemy may choose to spend a point of Willpower to avoid losing these motes, and an enemy who spends Willpower for (Essence) actions in a row becomes immune to the mote-draining effect (though not the Emotion effect). Characters who block up their ears or are deaf gain no protection against the song–it resonates in their bones and blood, demanding to be heard.
