Anything can happen, and there are times when nothing works as it should. Seemingly fatal blows can turn at the last second – to the attacker’s detriment. If the martial artist is attacked and her DVs beaten, this charm can be activated. On activation, the martial artist manages to realign her body such that the impaling thrust is a glancing blow or the neck crushing strike hits the collarbone. All damage from the attack is reduced to a single automatic unsoakable lethal health level, and the attacker is left off balance, allowing the martial artist an immediate counterattack at a -1 penalty. This charm cannot counter a counter and is not effective against ranged attacks (the damage reduction still works, but no counterattack is gained.) The charm is effective against sneak attacks, though the damage is reduced to 2 health levels instead of one and the counterattack (if applicable) is made at a -2 penalty.
