The various Hero Styles of the exalted are what result when an exalted martial artist applies their own divine essence directly into their techniques. It is simple and easy for any exalt to start learning their own Hero Style from scratch.
Mortal Hero Style is what results when an enlightened mortal attempts to do the same; it is a manifestation of pure, neutral essence applied to the martial arts. Unfortunately, since mortal essence is weak compared to that of the Exalted, the resulting Charms are not only very simple, but less than powerful; so much so, in fact, that the post-form Charms were only developed by observing and imitating the Exalted. Because most enlightened mortal martial artists are trained to awaken their essence with another style already in mind, it is not very often encountered; the Immaculate Order, for example, does not encourage it (though they do not object if a mortal monk quietly develops it on their own).
Still, the style has one advantage; it is the only set of Charms that mortals can learn on their own. For an enlightened mortal to do so, of course, they must have advanced as far as possible already, possessing Martial Arts 5 and Essence 3. The post-form Charms require the mortal to observe an exalt for at least half the requisite training time, but actual training is not needed.
Mortal Hero Style is not compatible with armor.
