Rather than learning from Creation’s fixed styles of combat, some Alchemical Exalted prefer to access a single database of broadly applicable fighting techniques developed since the Great Maker’s exile. These Charms are all based on one of the Maker’s three greatest inventions (doctrine, faith and tools) and serve different functions in combat (attack, defense, maneuver). But rather than a simple grab-bag of miscellaneous effects for increasing personal combat prowess, learning these Alchemical fighting arts is an act of ritual devotion to the Maker. Exalts learn these techniques according to a structure made up of nine “positions,” each at a different level of power, serving a different function and exemplifying a certain invention. The levels are Custodian, Matropolis/ Patropolis, and Subgod. Alchemical martial artists learn their first three Charms at the Custodian level, one each from each invention in order, before they can progress to the next power level. Once an Alchemical has mastered nine Charms, s/he may not learn any more Alchemical martial arts. So choose carefully.
The names of these Charms are structured thus: [Level] [Invention] [Function]. An example would be Custodian Tools Attack. At the Subgod level, the name of the appropriate Divine Minister is substituted (for example “Divine Minister Runel Doctrine Defense”). The one exception is Holy Core Attitude, which would be called “Patropolis Faith Defense” according to its fixed position; this is the only Charm that all users of Alchemical Martial Arts invariably learn and it represents the stability and power of the Core of the Great Maker.
Learning these Charms does not require the Alchemical to have the Perfected Lotus Matrix Charm installed.
The first time in a scene the Alchemical uses each Subgod-level Charm gives her a point of temporary Clarity.
Form weapons and armor: The staff/ wrackstaff and wind-fire wheel/ fate ring are the naturally occuring form weapons for this style, but others can be added (see Custodian Tools Maneuver).
Light armor can always be used with these Charms. Medium armor can be used only if it is under the effects of the Aegis Integration System Charm. Heavy armor cannot be used, nor can armor provided by the Essence Shield Projector.
